Greg Hayakawa

Bio

†Greg Hayakawa (1952-2026) was a celebrated singer, composer, liturgist, music minister and choir director. In his career, he served at many churches and institutions throughout California including Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, St. Monica’s Church in Santa Monica, St. Corpus Christi Church in Pacific Palisades, St. Anastasia Church in Westchester, and Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Woodland in Woodland, California.

Greg was an original member of Bob Hurd’s ensemble, Anawim. His compositions, “I Am the Light of the World” and “When We Eat This Bread,” were included in Hurd’s album, Roll Down the Ages. Greg wrote the theme song, “Gathered Today,” for St. Monica’s Centennial celebration in 1986. He also wrote two theme songs for the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress: “Proclaim the Glory” (1989) and “Waters of the Earth” (1991), which was co-written with Heather (Sheridan) Catalena.
