Magnificat
Deeply inspired by the harmonic richness of Herbert Howells and Ralph Vaughan Williams, this setting of the Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis was created as a straightforward setting with no elaborate textual extensions, desiring to demonstrate genuine craft and sincere respect to this time-honored and highly revered choral idiom within the Anglican choral tradition. There is no divisi present in the choral parts—only an occasional solo (with the option of a trio) within the Magnificat. The opening organ motif of the Magnificat seeks to generate a sense of an excited heartbeat; that of youthful purity (hence the use of all natural keys). Likewise, the organ introduction of the Nunc Dimittis endeavors to create a mystical reverence, and a feeling of wonderment coupled with aged excitement.
