Belovèd, Sleep Well

Written especially for Good Friday to commemorate Christ’s suffering and death on the Cross, this poignant choral setting of Alan Hommerding’s poetic English translation of the German hymn Ruht wohl, ihr heiligen Gebeine could also follow the Passion Gospel on Palm Sunday. This choral anthem, features an extended introduction for organ and oboe and a slightly shorter interlude between the verses. Though primarily intended to by accompanied by keyboard (organ), guitar chords are included, and an oboe part, sweet and fluid, can be used to add a deeper pathos.
